Do you ever wake up feeling like a zombie, stumbling around and struggling to make your brain work before you can start the day? Well, you're not the only one! Mornings can be tough for a lot of people—not all of us are morning persons—but there are a few things we can do to nail a perfect morning routine. In today’s blog post, we want to look at six different ways we can set ourselves up for success by making our mornings something to look forward to. So grab your coffee, tea, smoothie, or any other morning beverage you prefer and let’s get started.
It’s tempting to sleep in during the weekends or any other day that you don’t have to wake up early but, as much as you can, don’t. This is because one of the most important factors that make a routine is consistency: over time, as you build the habit of waking up at the same time every day, your body will adjust and know with little effort that it’s time to get going! This will help you feel more alert and energized.
This can also improve your sleep later on in the day! According to Verywell Health: “Think of your wake time as the anchor to your day.” The habit of waking up at the same time each day is also the same cue your body uses to let you know once it’s time for sleep.
Nothing can give you a better energy boost than exercise—not even coffee. If you want to kickstart your day with high spirits, find something physical to do: it can be a quick run or even just some light stretching. Anything that incorporates movements into your morning routine can help you feel more alert and focused throughout the day. On top of that, as we all know, exercise has a lot of benefits to our physical and mental health. It can even boost creativity.
If you’re looking to start your fitness journey in general, not just as part of your morning routine, we’ve got you! Here’s a quick guide from our founder, Chris Elfering, on how to keep your own fitness journal. Don’t forget to grab the Pocket Journal while you’re at it—it’s easy to carry, can take a beating, and takes very little space!
Food is fuel—what we put in our bodies has an effect on a lot of things including our energy and focus. This is why, when you can, eat something healthy in the morning to ensure you have the power to make it through the day. The key is to choose something balanced: protein, healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates will help keep you full and energized.
If you don’t have time to fix a healthy meal in the morning, do it at night! As the saying goes, if there’s a will there’s a way. Do your meal prep the night before. You’ll be amazed by the difference just by eating something healthier before you breeze through the day.
One of the best ways to keep your morning routine organized is to set up a to-do list. Doing this on the daily, either before going to sleep, after waking up, or during the start of your week, can keep your mornings less chaotic because you have everything you need to prioritize written down. Otherwise, you may forget what they are or struggle to remember them, and this can disrupt your morning. Routines rely on a certain flow and this is just one way to ensure yours is as smooth sailing as possible.
Nailing a perfect morning routine relies on getting enough sleep, too. Seven to eight hours of sleep is ideal so that you can give your body enough time to rest and recuperate. If you find yourself struggling with shuteye, you can also build a bedtime routine that will encourage you to sleep or start feeling sleepy at a certain time.
Restful sleep can also help us stay productive the rest of the day since we’re at our best. Check out this post of seven things you can try to get a good night’s rest!
Creating a perfect morning routine is about finding something that works for you so you can start the day on the right foot.
It may be different for everyone and you may need to tweak the things listed here. At its core though, all you need to be is consistent.
