Which one’s right for you?
Not every student works the same way — here’s how to pick the perfect fit:
- Pocket-size → Ultra‑portable, perfect for quick notes, pocket-sized study prompts, or field/lab work on the go.
- Traveler’s notebook size → Longer than pocket-size but with the same width. Ideal for lists, timelines, or sequential lecture notes while staying slim and backpack‑friendly.
- Field journal & field folio A5 → Classic A5 size for lectures, research, and everyday campus life. Fits easily in a backpack and can also hold an iPad mini.
- Field folio B5 → Larger format for extra space, big diagrams, or full projects — and fits an iPad (11").
How it works
- Choose your cover → Holds up to 4 notebooks
- Add your inserts → Pick from Dot Grid, Ruled, Plain, or Planner layouts
- Make it yours → Use it your way: class notes, projects, planning, research, and more

What students are saying
"I’m currently wrapping up my undergraduate career as a Biomedical Engineering major this semester and in the works of arranging my continued education with a PhD... I have yet to find a notebook that is capable of keeping up with my workflow… until I received my Field Journal. The quality is pristine, the respective journals offer phenomenal fountain pen compatibility, genuinely innovative (yet NOT TOO BULKY) storage compartments, and not to mention incredibly affordable."

I’m a full-time graduate student with a lot of classes, who is so pleased with my recent Lochby investment in 2 field journals with extra journal refills. I … have one journal per class and they all fit perfect in my 2 journals and they help me stay super organized for each class. I really like the dotted journals for taking class notes. So good! … These make my everyday tasks a true pleasure!

This thing is a tank. I'm a doctoral student taking field notes - it keeps everything I need at hand and secured. It's rugged and just keeps getting better with age. Have loads of Lochby gear and been using for years - it's so tough despite the daily abuse it gets - I've had an A5 that I drag from clinic to clinic and I still get asked what I am using because it just does everything so well and lasts! It's my right hand.

This is amazing for school... taking a summer class in Boston, the one dot grid notebook with the class subject, and the line so well with class and I write more. For my ADHD this works and has been a game savor. Kinda like the trapper keepers when I was in middle school but smaller, and fits in the backpack… I even got one for my EMS work strictly for that job.

I've found this product very useful for taking notes for classes, meetings, and projects since it's built like a modular multi-subject notebook. The front pockets are large enough to hold index cards, business cards, post-it tabs, or blotter paper… This one suits diverse note taking and writing needs perfectly.

As an aspiring novelists, a doctoral student and a higher education administrator, it's easy to lose track of thoughts, ideas, to-do's, etc. The pocket journal is my solution to keep my sanity. Love all Lochby products, you can't go wrong with any of them.

Any questions?
How many notebooks fit inside one cover?
Each cover holds up to four notebooks or inserts with elastic bands.
You can mix and match different layouts—tasks, planning, notes, and more—to create your own system.
What size should I get?
We offer four sizes, depending on how and where you use your notebook:
- Pocket-size – Perfect for quick notes on the go. Fits easily in small bags or jacket pockets.
- Traveler’s Notebook – Great for everyday journaling or portable planning.
- A5 – Our most popular size. A versatile choice for both work and life.
- B5 – A larger format with more writing space. Ideal for project planners or heavy notetakers.
What insert type should I choose?
We offer four insert types for Pocket-size and A5 covers:
- Dot Grid – Great for bullet journaling, flexible layouts, or sketches.
- Ruled – Ideal for meeting notes, journaling, or long-form writing.
- Plain – Perfect for drawing, mind-mapping, or free-form thinking.
- Planner – For daily schedules, to-do lists, and structured planning.
For Traveler’s Notebook and B5 covers, we offer Dot Grid inserts only, designed to give you plenty of space for all your ideas.
You can mix and match inserts to build a setup that works perfectly for you.
Will this fit my current notebooks?
Our covers are designed to fit most softcover notebooks that are about the right size for each cover (Pocket, Traveler’s, A5, or B5).
As long as your notebook’s thickness (width) is under 1", it should fit perfectly!
Just check your notebook’s dimensions to be sure.
Does it work with fountain pens?
Absolutely! Every notebook cover comes with one Dot Grid Tomoe River notebook—known as one of the best papers for fountain pens.
It resists bleed-through and feathering, so your writing looks crisp and clean.
Is it water-resistant?
Yes. Our journals are made from water-resistant waxed canvas to protect your notes from spills or the weather.
