Quiet, effortless access

A rubber-capped zipper pull glides smoothly and stays silent against desks and tables.

I switch between electronic construction drawings to meeting notes and field sketches as well as personal journaling. The FFB5 is exceptional at containing it all together... I now have the tech along side the analogue at all times.

— Robert K.

Allows me to use the P52-LG planner and standard comp notebooks. My work necessitates a lot of notes and this folio helps me to stay organized without being as large as the binder I used when I was in the field full time.

— Joseph C.

Considering that I use a regular composition notebook with a giant rubber band out on jobs as a landscaper, this Lochby B5 fit my needs perfectly. My book is no longer an embarrassment, everything stays clean, dry, and neat, it's exactly what I wanted and needed for jobs on the go.

— Linda A.

I think is the perfect size to carry with you. You have substantial field to work with on one side, now use both sides, it’s over the top for a folio with this many pockets and stashes to carry your necessities, anything from credit cards to pencil and pens .

— Terry C.

I love carrying this to work, meetings, traveling, nature walks, or practically wherever I go. I use it as a daily planner, sketchbook, bujo, journal, notebook for note taking.

By far, the best planner I've owned.

The size of the B5 is perfect for a full size planner. The accommodation of composition notebooks is such an additional bonus. The choice of materials and craftsmanship is fantastic. I truly appreciate the level of forethought that went into the design of this folio and its construction. The additional pockets on the interior and ability to include 4 individual notebooks is fantastic for blending work notes, calendars, personal journals, etc. This is a one-step shop of functionality. I've used myriad other planners as a working professional and during my career in the military and I can say without equivocation, that this folio is one of the best products on the market. Great job team!

    Practical for fieldwork

I got this for doing geology fieldwork. It just needs to be water resistant until I can get it into a bag. Last trip was in Borneo, and when it rains it really rains! It holds decent size B5 pages, with a backing stiff enough to write while standing. I use an iPad with GPSTracks for navigation, so all that fits safely inside the folio - well protected. Slips and stumbles are a daily risk and the iPad must be protected. The carrying strap is far more practical than I expected. I can hook a relaxed hand through it and it just stays there while I walk. With the new generation of different coloured waterproof fountain pen inks it all adds a touch of style to an other wise mucky and tiring day. Attached photo is from 3˚18'57.2" N, 113˚ 39' 46.6" E. I also carry it around town as well, for pretty much the same reasons. Extremely practical

We’re honored it's part of your kit especially in such rugged conditions. It’s great to know the strap and build are holding their own and we loved the coordinates touch! Versatile and Functional Field Folio B5

Have not been able to set up and use my new Field Folio B5 until a few days ago. I'm loving it. I was hoping my hardcover nature journal would fit inside comfortably. So I was happy to see that it works! I can't use the elastic "straps" to hold it attached to the folio, because it keeps the journal's front cover from completely closing. That's fine because when I use it, I will remove the journal anyway to work. Just glad it protects the journal and I can carry my writing and sketching tools inside. When I don't use it for my journal but want to carry a book, that works well too (depending on the size and thickness of the book of course). I also use the notebook that was included as my writing journal. Loving this new addition. It's versatile and functional just like all the other products I have purchased from Lochby. Thanks Lochby for always evolving!

Thanks so much for sharing this! We're really glad to hear the Field Folio B5 is working out well for your nature journal and that it’s pulling double duty when you want to carry a book too. Totally makes sense about not using the elastic straps for the hardcover. It’s great that the folio still offers the protection and organization you need though! We appreciate you being part of the Lochby community and love hearing how you're putting our gear to use. Thanks again for the kind words!

    Field folio in the wild

The Lochby Field Folio B5 has been a constant in my daily profession as a mechanical project manager. I reserved this review for about a month as I put it to work. I had been on the hunt for a suitable folio for a long time. Coming from the A5 world into B5 was more related to a folio for analogue note and sketch but also having modern tech available as well. I will switch between electronic construction drawings to meeting notes and field sketches as well as personal journaling. The FFB5 is exceptional at containing it all together. I landed on the B5 as the modern A16 iPad including Magic Keyboard fits inside remarkably well. I now have the tech along side the analogue at all times. FFB5 protects the iPad and the keyboard slips into the left panel surprisingly snug. On the right the Lochby standard B5 notepad is at the ready and for you moleskinners, the softcover XL tucks in the right sleeve. Very convenient having everything stored together. This folio has been in industrial boiler plants, board room meetings and carries my essentials, holds up well to everything. I'd buy it again and if Lochby makes a new version that is designed for letter I'd like one of those as well.

This is such a great review! Thank you for putting the Field Folio B5 through its paces before sharing your thoughts. We're so glad it's been a solid fit for your workflow. Love knowing how you’ve combined analog and digital tools inside it! Really appreciate the suggestion for a letter-sized version. This is something that we'll definitely pass that along to our product development team. Thanks again!

Endless Possibilities: See How I Pack Out My Folio B5?

This is an addition to my last review on the Folio B5. I forgot to include most of these images. You can certainly get creative on how to pack it your way. I love carrying this to work, meetings, traveling, nature walks, or practically wherever I go. I use it as a daily planner, sketchbook, bujo, journal, notebook for note taking.

To give you an idea, here's how I packed my folio:

    - 1x Everyman Grafton pen (matte black) in pen pocket

    - 1x Apple tag

    - 1x Genius Gear Lab 3" ruler

    - 1x Lochby pocket-sized notebook

    - 2x Sakura Pigma Micron fineliner pens

    - 1x Staedtler 0.5mm machanical pencil

    - 1x Uni metal case for lead replacements

    - 1x eraser

    - 1x Post-it notepad

    - Stamps

    - 1x Lochby B5 notebook

    - 1x Nitoms S4102 STALOGY Notebook (B5)

    - index cards

    - paper clips

Even with this configuration, there's still room to fit more in each pockets.

One thing I'd like to see in the future is an inner zipper pocket to keep smaller items secured without falling out when opening or closing.

For a more in-depth testimonial on this Folio B5, see my earlier review under profile "kkimkong" on this page.

FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

Why is the zipper designed this way?

We designed the zipper to rest on top when the folio is fully open. This keeps the writing surface flat and free of bulges, so nothing gets in your way while you work.

The zipper’s position also determines where the pen pocket goes—keeping it on top makes it easier to access and keeps the folio clean and functional when closed. Read more.
