Ah, the Tool Roll. A classic piece known by many. Here at LOCHBY, we’ve decided to redesign it to fit all of our modern tools—whatever that may mean to all of us personally—but in waxed canvas. This handy burrito can fit quite a lot and bundles up nice and tight so that it doesn’t take a lot of space since, as you already know, maximizing space is important for us here.

In today’s blog post, we’ve put together answers to your most common questions about the LOCHBY Tool Roll, adding reviews from actual customers who have tried our gear themselves and can confirm that it did suit their needs—and more.

First things first: why do the photos have different variations for the elastic loops?

This is a question we often get and is only the case since some photos and posts feature an older version of the Tool Roll. We went with the most popular option based on feedback and the current variation for the elastic loops, from left to right, is 3 medium, 2 large, 4 small.

Aside from the zippered mesh pocket and loops, is that everything?

Not quite! There are actually three wider pockets behind each group of elastic loops where you can store more items. We’ve seen people store index cards, calculators, airpods, and even a magic mouse in there.

Depending on what you put here, please take note that this can, of course, affect how your Tool Roll “rolls up” and how tightly it does so.

Do any of your other gear fit?

Our Pocket Journal refills do so you can carry around extras! Since the Tool Roll is meant to be folded into a little burrito, anything thicker than that can greatly impact how nicely you can roll it up. It isn’t meant for overly bulky or wide items—but you can get the Venture Pouch for that!

Can it fit sharp items like wood carving knives and the likes?

It definitely can. However, make sure you cap the knives (and even sharpened pencils) so they don’t end up cutting the fabric. A lot of our customers hold knives, chisels, clay sculpting tools, and even knitting needles in the Tool Roll. We've even seen microphones in there. Hey—if it fits, right?

How do you make sure the items inside don’t fall off?

It has flaps on top and below to keep whatever you store in the Tool Roll from slipping out. Take a look at the review and photo below. When everything is rolled up nice and tight, it ensures all of your items are secure within.

In what ways have other people used their Tool Roll?

We’ll try to mention as much as we can but… there’s a lot. We’ve seen it used as a pen roll, a dopp kit, first aid kit, cycling tool kit, artist roll… it’s a pretty endless list and, from time to time, people continue to reach out or tag us to show exactly how they use theirs. Knitting needles, microphones, other EDC items… you name it.

Our founder, Chris Elfering, also uses it as his vehicle kit. Check out what he has in one of his Tool Rolls here—there’s a video version if you’d rather watch than read, also in the link!

What other questions do you have about the Tool Roll?

Is there anything else specific that you’d like to know about our Tool Roll? Don’t hesitate to drop a comment or send us either an email or chat. We’d love to answer any questions you have!

Hi Lochby,
I love your products! I just purchased the Tool Roll- I’m saving the best for last. Didn’t you used to sell wax on your site that we could reapply to your products?
If you don’t anymore, is there a specific kind you recommend? A video with a method would be cool, too. Thank you!
