Writing is a process, and my development process is organized using different pages and notebooks. Character details and backstories are brought to life in one notebook. Themes and story arcs are hashed out and mapped out, bullet point and bubble fashion, on separate blank sheets of paper. The stories come to life in still another ruled notebook. This makes the process physical and real to me, instead of electronic and recorded. When I was given Lochby Field Journal as a gift, it immediately became the central organization enabler of my process. I love it.

Not sure if it's the size or material or basic layout but I've been filling the pages like crazy. Mind you I have at least 8 similar products and probably 60 plus notebooks all laying here EMPTY, and this one is the ONLY one EVER to evoke the inspiration for me to use as intended. I am a writer (buy my books! LOL) and this is the perfect tool for writing down thoughts, ideas, questions, story fragments, etc., that occur to me at random. I have a habit of taking walks on a local nature trail several times each week, and that is where ideas seem to want to happen. I've already taken my Field Journal with me on one walk, and the first pages now hold ideas that came to me. This is going to be a great tool!

Honestly, it couldn’t be better! It easily holds three notebooks, and you can get four in if you want to. The size is so well thought out - there’s no waste around the edges of the notebooks, and the exterior pockets are very handy. The fact that you get a bit of extra support on the left when you open the notebook is great for left handed writers like me.

Ugh I hate writing this because I didn't want to love it and want every other journal ever made. But I do. I adore it. I had it 4 minutes and immediately needed the smaller version. I'm pretending like I'm waiting for Christmas but there's no way I hold out that many weeks (8. I can not make it 8 weeks)
Seriously though I am a mom of 4, artist, business owner and in graduate school. I am analog through and through and this journal made it possible to seem lessly keep track of my calendar, business life, sketch book and grad school notes. My life is complicated, this journal adds much needed simplicity.

I have spent the last 6 months trying to find an EDC notebook that fits my chaotic lifestyle. This journals looks and feels premium in the best ways, without making me feel like I need to be precious with it. It feels comfortable to write in in any situation, and I think it will be my daily driver for years to come.

I am a repeat customer and I’d say this journal has only gotten better. Rugged, tough and lots of room.
I decided to replace one that I lost and wanted it in time for my vacation. I gambled and paid the additional bucks for 2 day delivery. It would be tight. One delay and I wouldn’t have it. I got a confirmation email that my order was process on a SUNDAY! That single day allowed me to receive it a day ahead of my vacation. Beyond pleased ! Kicking around getting the pocket version.

Finally after acouple years of searching I've found the journal case for me. Being able to keep all my needed journals, Sketchbooks an planners all in one place is a big help. Actually having space for post it notes or a book light is great. An oh man the closing system, I love it. I use to have trouble with the YKK zipper on my old journal case but now no longer have to worry cause I can easily open the lochby field journal up with a simple latch.
My only qualm is I worry that it'll break on me in some way or from but I think that's due to a lot of product these days being in bad design an cheap quality. Which the lochby doesn't seem to have that so, fingers crossed.
I'm loving this journal.

I didn't see this use case mentioned much in other reviews, so I'll share mine. This product is excellent for organizing all your work notes alongside your schedule (if you're taking meeting notes digitally, you might as well not attend the meeting). I appreciate being able to keep notes, schedule tasks, and follow up all in one book. The journal provides ample storage, and the A5 size allows me to keep my old notebook out of the way but still accessible if I need to reference it. Additionally, this journal looks great on a conference table or desk, much better than those stuffy ballistic nylon or fake leather planners you find at big box stores.
I'd love to see another planner style. What Lochby sells works great, but a vertical weekly would really hit the sweet spot for folks like me that bill by the hour.

What can fit in the Field Journal?
The Field Journal fits most A5-sized notebooks unless they are thicker than 1". Here’s a list of popular items it can fit:

Does it come with a notebook?
Yes! The Field Journal includes an A5 dot grid notebook made from Tomoe River paper. Extra notebooks can be purchased separately here.
Can it hold multiple notebooks?
Yes, as long as the combined thickness isn’t over 1". You can carry up to six notebooks using the internal elastic cords.
Does it have pockets?
Yes! There’s a back pocket for notebooks or phones, and four interior pockets for cards, pens, etc.
Is it waterproof?
The Field Journal is made of waxed canvas, offering water resistance. Over time, you may need to reapply wax to maintain its water resistance.
Can I write on it with one hand?
Yes! The built-in plastic sheet makes it rigid enough for one-handed writing.
Which color should I choose?
We offer Rugged Brown, Classic Black, and Elegant Navy.
