    A Welcome Addition

When I wrote my review for the Sidekick, I deducted a star from an otherwise glowing review because at the time, I couldn't find an appropriately-sized (A7) notebook that I liked. This addition to the catalog has solved that problem. (As an aside, Lochby CS: if there is a way for me to amend my Sidekick review, I would love the opportunity to do so!)

As someone who doesn't love lined paper, but also can't write in a straight line to save his life, the dot-matrix is a great happy medium. The lack of branding combined with the dot-matrix also means that the book is completely symmetrical along both axes, so I can write one kind of notes from one side, but also flip the book over and write another kind of note from the other side and have them meet in the middle. (This might just be a weird thing I do, but I'm grateful for it.) On the topic of writing, the paper itself feels great to write on, and the stock is just thick enough to be durable while still being thin enough to give you plenty of pages in a small package.

At $3.50/book, these are essentially identical in price to the Moleskine Volant, but with dots instead of lines and without perforations. In addition to preferring the dots, I also like that the Lochby pages are non-perforated. While the ability to tear pages out might be appealing to some, I prefer the durability of the solid page, and I can always use my multitool scissors to cut a page out if necessary.

All in all, I'm very pleased with these notebooks. If…

This is such a thoughtful and detailed review. Thank you! We're really glad the A7 notebooks are working out for your setup and it’s great to know that the dot grid strikes the right balance for you. Thanks for the shoutout about wanting to update your Sidekick review as well. They're unfortunately no longer editable after they're submitted. Still, we appreciate you mentioning this bit!

    Lochby A7 Notebook is Great…….but…..

As a notebook, it’s 5 stars all the way. I have to give it 3 stars for its intended purpose which is to fit in a Lochby Sidekick. Don’t get me wrong, it is a great notebook, high quality paper, superior build quality to most anything out there, but it isn’t the best option regarding fit and use in a Sidekick. I have found that the Rhodia is a much better fit and gives you a lot more real estate to write and draw on. It would be GREAT if Lochby would make a “Sidekick” sized notebook in the same size as the Rhodia. I love Lochby notebooks, and use Pocket and A5 size currently, but in my Sidekick, I have to go with the Rhodia. If I wasn’t taking the Sidekick usage into consideration, I would rank this notebook five stars all day long. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Thanks so much for the thoughtful review. It really helps us to understand how the gear is working (or not working) in real-world use!

We’re glad to know you’re loving the quality of the A7 notebook overall. As for the fit in the Sidekick, we totally get where you’re coming from. We sized the notebook intentionally to avoid crowding out the pen slot since anything larger tends to make the fit a bit too tight. That said, we’re always open to hearing preferences like yours and will definitely pass your suggestion about a Rhodia-sized version along to our product development team.

Appreciate you using multiple sizes across the lineup and for taking the time to share this kind of detailed feedback! It means a lot to us and will help us continue improving.

    The Perfect Fit

Lochby never disappoints. These new A7s fit nicely in my Sidekick. I also keep one in my shirt pocket. The smaller size (A7) is just the right size for me when I’m just out and about. It’s a great substitute for the larger pocket notebooks are needed. Great work Lochby!
