    An intersting way to go

This is not for everyone. The binder is specialized, so you need to either use the Lochby A5 paper (provided, at least one refill) or guess whose will fit. Since I already had a couple similar, I tried them out - the Plotter A5 paper fits as punched, but finding a punch (other than a single hole punch) will be a challenge. (CARL makes one, but again, it's hard to find.)

Like other Lochby products, it's well-made and useful, but until they get their paper up and running (or if you are one of those people and have some of your own), it may be a limited-use item.

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughtful and honest feedback, we really appreciate it. We understand your point about the system being a bit different compared to more standard binders, and that finding compatible paper or punches can take a little experimenting at first. Our binder refills are coming soon, please stay tuned.

We're glad to hear the overall build and usefulness stood out to you and your notes about paper compatibility are helpful for others who may be considering the setup. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience!

    Not quite, but almost perfect

I’ve owned the A5 6 Ring Binder about a month now and am really enjoying it! It’s completely functional and has an amazing rugged look. I’ve inserted monthly calendars and blank pages, so it serves as a planner and a journal. I love the back handle strap and also the heavy duty adjustable hook latch. My only complaint is that I wish the rings were larger so it could hold more pages. Great job team Lochby!

Thanks so much for sharing your experience, and we’re really glad to hear the binder has been working well for both planning and journaling. It’s great to know features like the handle strap and latch have been useful touches in everyday use.

We appreciate you mentioning the ring capacity as well, which we decided on based on a survey we ran. But feedback like this is always helpful for us to hear as we continue refining our designs and we'll keep it in mind, as well as monitor if demand changes. Thanks again for the kind words and for your support!

    It's great!!

I received a pocket journal for Christmas from my wife that I keep part of my EDC and love how perfect it is, I got the field binder to be able to have a little bit more room as well as keep the lochby quality that I've grown to love for writing mostly at home or to throw in a laptop bag. The quality is amazing and it's the perfect size for me! The customer service is also top notch as they helped me with issues I had with my address very quickly and professionally! Thanks Lochby!

Only had the binder for a day and loving it. it’s great that I am more able to flip to different sections of the binder if I’m sitting in certain meetings or dividing my notes between business and personal, still waiting for the dividers from amazon. I’m excited to see if there’s an archive box or binder to keep older notes and for the calendar to release with the 6 hole punch

So happy to know you love your Field Binder A5 and it lived up to expectations! We hope you get lots of use out of it and we're equally excited once you have it fully set up, dividers and all. As for an archive box, we'll pass that on to our product development team so we can consider it! Appreciate the support, it really means a lot to our team. Thank you so much!

    Amazing

Love how many things I can use it for and how it can go anywhere

FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

What paper size and standard does it use?

A5 6‑hole refills (5.8" x 8.3"). Compatible with most A5 6‑ring systems (e.g., Filofax‑style A5). Not compatible with U.S. half‑letter (5.5 × 8.5 in) or 3‑ring paper.

Does it come with sheets?

Yes. The Field Binder A5 includes 36 A5 dot‑grid sheets (72 pages) of Tomoe River 68 gsm paper—smooth and fountain‑pen friendly. Refill packs of A5 6‑ring sheets will be available soon.

How many sheets can it hold?

The 6‑ring mechanism comfortably holds up to about 80 sheets of 68 gsm paper (160 pages front and back). Capacity varies with paper thickness and the inserts you use. Refill packs are not available yet, but they’re coming soon.

Will it work with fountain pens and wet inks?

The included Tomoe River 68 gsm sheets are fountain‑pen friendly with excellent dry times and minimal bleed.

Does it have pockets?

Yes. There’s a full‑length back pocket for documents or a phone, plus four interior pockets for cards, tools, and accessories—along with an elastic pen loop.

Does it lay flat? Can I fold the cover back?

It lays flat on a desk. We don’t recommend folding the cover back on itself due to the ring mechanism.

How do I open/close the rings?

Use the mechanism’s tabs or levers—don’t pull on the rings. Press both sides to close until you hear a click.

Can left‑handed users write comfortably?

Yes. The binder opens flat, and the integrated writing board helps with edge support.

Is it waterproof?

The Field Binder A5 uses waxed canvas for water resistance (not full waterproofing). Light rain and splashes will bead off; reapply wax over time to maintain water resistance.

Is the ring mechanism replaceable?

The mechanism isn’t user‑replaceable. If you have an issue, contact support for repair or replacement options.
