There are bags you carry. And then there are bags that seem to carry your life in motion. The Lochby Field Sling belongs to the latter category.
I first realized this somewhere between Narita Airport and the Keisei Skyliner into Tokyo — that quiet, liminal stretch where the jet lag hasn’t quite arrived but the adventure already has. My passport, notebook, fountain pen and phone slipped perfectly into the sling’s compartments, each with the satisfying precision of a tool returning to its sheath.
This is not a bag for tourists. It is a bag for wandering correspondents.
The Field Sling feels like something a war reporter might have carried through Saigon in 1968… or perhaps a field naturalist sketching birds along the Rio Grande… or a slightly jet-lagged online community strategist (that would be me) wandering the neon alleys of Shinjuku looking for ramen at midnight.

This small messenger bag has been perfect for off-site meetings where I just need to carry some notes, a pen and business cards, and it’s also been great for short hikes where I need to carry binoculars, a small camera, and some beautiful stones I find along the way. I mainly use my sling bag to carry all my EDC gear. I use it mainly as a pack to move from car to car. Its small compact doesn’t take up a ton of room. Solidly built like any other product from Lochby . I own a few and really have been impressed by the beating they take. Like I said it’s a small pack am I fitting everything I need in there….no. Can I get by with what it holds, absolutely. In mine I am able to pack in my Lochby sidekick v2, mini field notebook, my ridge MagSafe wallet, ridge dual usb charger 2 cables, 2 fountain pens a can of Zyns, toothpicks, and and edc pouch containing various items. Is it packed tight, sure. Can i get to just one thing if I need it, sure can. The canvas is gorgeous and adds just a bit of class, rather than the tactical look most of the bag I have. The clip is easy to manipulate if I need to get to something. Best part is if I need to take it with me I can just grab and go and it rides nicely while carrying it. Lochby, if you ever decide to go with a bigger design please just take my money cause you hit this one out of the park !
